Drumming Mad! in association with Kilts and More and  

present Drumming Mad 3 Andante Ensemble Workshop ~ 2007 with 3rd in the World Solo Snare Drumming Champion Steven McWhirter, 2007 World Champion lead tenor drummer Norman "Haggis" MacLeod, Pipe Sgt Alastair Dunn Field Marshal Montgomery, Bernard Bouhadana also of the current world champion band Field Marshal Montgomery and Stuart Liddell of Simon Fraser University in Canada!

Drumming Mad 3, 2007 workshop and Andante masterclass details are finalised.  This is a 2-day course being held in the mid-West town of Nideggen.  The course theme is 'ensemble playing'.  The first of a series of fantastic workshops aimed at "the band player".

 Where and when:

Date: Friday, Saturday and Sunday November 2, 3 & 4, 2007

Time: Check in from Friday at 2pm, Class Organisation Friday 7pm, Recitals start at 8.30pm.  All welcome.  Course concluding Sunday at 3pm.

Location: Jugendherberge "Nideggen"

Investment: Workshops, Accomodation and Food (All inclusive) €165 Adult and €145 Youth (all prices include 19% Tax)

There are 17 Classes for Piping and Drumming:

Advanced Piping: Pipers with more than 4 years playing experience and can play tunes of all time signatures in a pipe corps.

Intermediate Piping I: Pipers with between 12 months and 4 years playing experience  

Instructor: Pipe Sargent Alastair Dunn (Grade 1 World Champions Field Marshal Montgomery)

 

Intermediate Piping II: Pipers with between 12 months and 4 years playing experience

Instructor: Bernard Bouhadana (Grade 1 World Champions Field Marshal Montgomery)

Intermediate Piping III: Pipers with between 12 months and 4 years playing experience

Instructor: Pipe Major Benedikt Groh (Clan Pipers Frankfurt and District Pipe Band)

 

 

Elementary Piping: Pipers with up to 12 months playing experience.  This group will focus on an introduction to 6/8 March Playing.

Elementary/Intermediate Bass: Bass Drummers with at least 6 months playing experience.

Instructor: Maik Reckziegel (Frankfurt and District Pipe Band)

Intermediate Tenor: Tenor Drummers with up to 3 years playing experience. Instructor: Robbert van Gorp (L/Tenor Antwerp and District Pipe band)

The aim of the course is to provide all participants with a better understanding of pipe band ensemble playing.  You will have the opportunity to learn new ways in technique to help with your musical flow.  Improved individual technique will also help with better corps integration and accurate playing with the band.

At the end of the course you will:

·       Have developed your intra corps playing

·       Have learnt a special set of rudiment phrases that help with better execution

·       Have a better understanding of what ensemble playing is all about

Have learnt tips for instrument tuning and maintenance

Course Timing Plan:

Friday Afternoon informal pad and chanter sessions from 3pm.  Checkin from 2pm.

Arrival in for 6pm dinner on Friday night.  7pm Class Organisation.  20.30pm evening recitals on Friday night..  Course kick off is Saturday morning at 9am working through until 6pm.  There will of course be meals and breaks (you can’t play on an empty stomach!)

Each day there will be an ensemble presentation by the instructors and an open question time where you can ask your favourite ensemble questions!

Sunday starting at 9am and finishing at 3pm (to allow for long distance travellers).

 

Meals:

All meals together at the Jugendherberge "Nideggen" (Meals are included in the price)

Workshops investment is €165 for Adults and €145 for 17yo and under (incl. 19% Tax)

The price has increased since the last workshop due to increased flight costs.  The cost of the question time sessions with the guest teachers is also covered in the price.
