·       Experienced Snare: Drummers with at least 6 months playing experience.  (As Breuberg Side Drum 2 level) News : this course WILL run.

 ·       Advanced Snare: Drummers with at least 1 year Grade 4 Experience (as Breuberg Side Drum 3 level)

 ·       Experienced Bass & Tenor: Drummers with at least 6 months playing experience (Drum Corps Players on Drums)

The aim of the course is to provide all drummers with a better understanding of pipe band ensemble playing.  You will have the opportunity to learn new ways in technique to help with your musical flow.  This workshop theme is ‘Scottish Dance Time’ including the ‘pointed’ timing tunes of Strathspey and Reel for Advanced class and March Time for the Experienced class.  The idea of a workshop theme is to focus on a particular rhythm to gain a more full understanding on a specific area of drumming expression.

At the end of the course you will: -

·       Have developed your drum corps playing

·       Be able to play a Strathspey and Reel or March

·       Have learnt a special set of rudiment phrases that help in the Scottish Dance Time execution for Strathspey and Reel or Marches

·       Have worked on and developed Dance playing or March playing through new Dance and March phrases

·       Come home with a good solid feeling and understanding of how to play a Strathspey and Reel in a drum corps for Advanced Drummers

·       Have a better understanding of drum score writing

·       Have a better understanding of ensemble playing

Course Timing Plan: -

Course kick off is at 9am Saturday Morning and working right through until 6.  There will of course be meals and breaks (you can’t drum on an empty stomach!) and in the evening the plan is to have an evening meal together in a pub and we will try to organize a TV/DVD for some hot drumming viewing!! Sunday starting at 9am and finishing at 3 (to allow for long distance travellers).

The location for DM1 is the rehearsal rooms of the German Lowland Band in Xanten.  You can find the location map on their website at http://www.german-lowland.de/01_band/04_probe/probe.htm  You need to scroll down to see the school which is marked with (1) on the map.
